Both British and Emergentist: Whitehead’s Account of Diachronic Emergence

In this paper, Daniel Bella and I argued that Whitehead offers an account of diachronic emergence within the fundamental level of reality. We compared this account with Paul Humphreys’s conception of emergence as fusion and argued that Whitehead’s account cannot be reduced to synchronic emergence.
